Meet the artist and explore the meaning behind stargirl.
My name is Dena Hindi.
I'm an 18 year old college student and I've already discovered what I want to do for the rest of my life: create.
My first memory of drawing brings me back to the age of five years old. My family and I lived in Ohio, and from what I can recall it was ridiculously cold. This led to many days of being cooped up in a barely furnished home. No worries though, just like any other five year old I found many ways to occupy my little brain. One of them was drawing. I remember being curious about how to draw a star and I begged and begged... and begged again for my mom to teach me how! After I learned, I drew stars on literally everything. Almost thirteen years later and instead of drawing stars, I'm painting them and making them out of fabric.
It hasn't always been easy being an artist. Everyone goes through times in their lives where they have to reevaluate themselves and who they want to be as a person. Creatives have to do this constantly. Not only as a day-to-day regular human being, but also as an artist. One person who has made that so much easier on me is my father. I can always depend on him and look up to him. I had my first art show ever this year in Brooklyn, New York. We didn't really have the funds to make it there and somehow he made it work! A man once told me, "no matter what you will always be my little star." That man was Jonathan Hindi. Whenever you see that little red star, just know it's for him. I promise I'll make you even more proud Dad.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my journey so far, I hope to take you even higher with me.
